Neal J. Armstrong, 35, of Vineland, was found guilty on Thursday, Sept. 14 of his involvement in an incident that occurred in the City of Millville in the fall of 2017, according to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae.
Armstrong was alleged to have shared drugs and sex with the inmate during an ongoing relationship after her release from jail, she said.
Armstrong was convicted of third-degree terrorist threats, second-degree hindering apprehension or prosecution, third-degree attempted hindering apprehension and simple assault by physical menace, a disorderly person's offense.
During an internal affairs investigation, it was discovered and alleged that the defendant threatened to kill the victim (a former inmate at the Cumberland County Jail) if she disclosed to authorities their ongoing relationship and the acts and events (alleged drug use and sexual favors) that occurred at a residence in the 200 block of Oak Street in Millville, the prosecutor said.
While the investigation into this incident was continuing, Armstrong contacted a friend in July 2018 requesting assistance in remotely deleting incriminating messages and data from his cell phone which was seized by authorities pursuant to court order, she said.
During the investigation, the CCPO PSU received the full cooperation of the Cumberland County Jail’s administration and internal affairs unit, Webb-McRae said.
The jury acquitted the defendant of two other charges that were contained in the indictment: second-degree Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose and fourth-degree Aggravated Assault by Pointing a Firearm.
